Before submitting, check the university’s official admissions page and your chosen programme. A university-wide deadline may not cover every document, assessment, or special programme.

November is the first key checkpoint

If you want early consideration, put these dates in your calendar:

  • 15 November 2026: CityUHK early-round deadline.cityu.edu
  • 16 November 2026: HKBU and EdUHK early-round deadlines.admissions.hkbu.edu+1
  • 25 November 2026: HKU first-round deadline at noon HKT, and HKUST Priority Round deadline.join.hkust.edu+1

The practical takeaway is simple: do not leave your personal statement, programme choices, and school references until November.

Understanding application rounds

Early and priority rounds

An early or priority round gives the university an earlier opportunity to review your application. It does not guarantee admission.

HKBU, for example, states that applications undergo a holistic review. Meeting its entrance requirements and successfully submitting an application do not guarantee an offer.

Apply in an early round when you can submit a complete, accurate application—not simply because you want to be first.

Main rounds

Main rounds provide another scheduled application window. However, the deadlines differ significantly between universities.

For example, EdUHK’s main-round deadline is 6 January 2027, while HKBU’s is 1 February and PolyU’s is 11 February. Do not assume that every university closes applications in January.

Rolling and extended rounds

Rolling admissions mean the university continues reviewing applications over a period rather than releasing every decision on one date. HKUST lists rolling applications after its Priority Round, while HKU continues evaluation beyond its first round.

Extended or late rounds can provide another opportunity, but availability matters. EdUHK explicitly makes late consideration subject to programme discretion and available places.

A final deadline should be your backup—not your target.

Documents and school references

Track more than the application deadline

Submitting the form may be only one part of completing your application. School references, predicted grades, portfolios, or other supporting materials can follow different timelines.

HKU illustrates this clearly: its first-round application deadline is 25 November 2026 at noon HKT. Counsellors and referees should input predicted or actual grades and submit supporting materials by 1 December 2026. Individual faculties may set additional document timelines.

Waiting for final results?

Pending results do not always mean you must wait to apply. EdUHK allows applicants to apply with pending grades and update their results later. However, an application remains incomplete until the necessary supporting materials arrive.

CityUHK may also issue conditional offers to final-year high-school students using their latest available results.

The key is to check your university’s policy and submit the information it requests—not guess which documents can wait.

Check before clicking submit

Some application details are difficult to change afterward. HKBU, for instance, does not accept changes to programme choices or study year after submission, although applicants can upload supporting documents and update certain academic information.

Review your programme order, identity details, contact information, and uploaded files before paying and submitting.

Interviews, offers, and next steps

When might you hear back?

Universities do not all release decisions together. These are published decision windows, not guaranteed response dates for every applicant.

Check your application portal, email, and spam folder regularly. Also, keep your contact details current so you do not miss an interview invitation or offer.

Receiving an offer is not the final step

Read the offer carefully. Check its academic conditions, acceptance deadline, deposit requirements, and instructions for submitting final results.

At HKU, successful first-round applicants can expect approximately three to four weeks to accept an offer and pay a non-refundable deposit. Your own offer letter remains the controlling instruction.

Visa preparation also needs time. HKBU asks successful non-local applicants who require a student visa or entry permit to submit their visa applications through the university at least eight weeks before their intended arrival.

The HKUNI takeaway

Start with your earliest deadline, then work backward. Ask your school about references now, prepare your documents before November, and keep a separate tracker for each university.

Most importantly, do not confuse “applications are still open” with “I should wait.” A strong application plan covers submission, supporting documents, interviews, offer acceptance, and arrival—not just the final date on the calendar.

Admission schedules may change. Programme-specific requirements and official university instructions take precedence over this guide.
